Peregrine Falcon - 2nd Attempt

I popped back to watch my recently discovered nest of Peregrine Falcons. It was interesting today because I was testing out different lenses and seeing which worked the best. I had with me a Sigma 800mm from uni. This was not a good lens to use as it was very soft and really did not give a good result. I then tried a Nikon 300mm with a 1.4 teleconverter. This was still not great but for the distance it is the best option. I am still having trouble with the lighting and need to find the best time of day to get the light at the right angle. Hopefully however this should be sorted in the near future and I should be able to post so averagely nice images.

  1. Hi Sam, don't think we've met. Do remember that you took these from a public footpath, the licensing people can get very sniffy about photographers without licenses to snap the specific birds. Andy

  2. They are taken from a footpath, In no way am I disturbing the birds. I would feel very different about my images if I ventured off the path and started to disturb them.

  3. I, too, am passionate about wildlife and minimising disturbance of it, but I can't see how Sam's photography here has possibly risked that happening. Using an 800mm lens and barely filling 15% of the frame with the birds themselves indicates to me that the footpath is far enough away to ensure no disturbance and to allow the peregrines to get on with their day quite happily, probably barely aware of Sam's presence.

  4. I agree with this, There is a natural hide aswel created by a hedge so it is literally just the lens that they can see and it is from a massive distance!

  5. The licensing people don't know what common sense is! I was merely advising Sam of the potential pitfalls of these beep! idiots. I was NOT suggesting the birds had been disturbed! Andy
